How to continue enjoying your flowers, once they have dried

The value of the arrangement that someone dear has sent you does not fade when the flowers have dried. The gesture remains and the flowers continue to be beautiful, although in a different way. Don't throw them away. We suggest these preservation methods:

silica gel

Silica gel or silica gel is a gritty substance that you can buy at craft stores. It is ideal for drying flowers. Put the gel in a large container and put the flowers there. You will see that after a few days they will look great, as if they were fresh.

In the air

Gather the flowers in bunches of similar sizes and tie them with string, hang them upside down in a ventilated area, out of direct sunlight. In a few weeks you will have some beautiful vintage flowers to decorate your centerpieces.

by pressure

Place each flower inside a heavy book. Before that it is important to place each one inside waxed paper. When you already have the flowers distributed in different sections of the book, close it and wait 10 to 15 days before opening it again.

These flowers can be used to adhere them to recycled paper with white glue, and thus create gift wrap, bookmarks, lampshades and other pieces of decoration.

use the microwave

If you want to speed up the drying time of your flowers, what you will need is cat litter -clean, obviously- and a container suitable for this type of oven. Place the flowers in the container with sand and add more sand on top. Put in the microwave and let it work for three minutes at maximum power. Remove it and allow it to cool to room temperature before removing your dried flowers.

And what is done with the dried flowers?

• The ones that you dry with pressure, you can glue them to paper and make decorations.

• Those that dry in the air or in the oven, you can spray them with hairspray and put them in a vase.

• You can use the petals to place them in a nice tray, and spray them with a few drops of lavender essential oil and use them as a potpourri at home.

• You can also put that potpourri in small cloth bags to keep them in your clothes drawers.
